**Let me do my best to explain "origin". It's something from the first game. It's not referring to a specific summon spirit like in Tales of Symphonia. You see, in Liese Maxia the people use lower class spirits to perform everyday functions like lighting street lamps, etc. This isn't slavery exactly haha. You see, the spirits thrive on mana (which the people of Liese Maxia give off) and in turn allow the people to use their powers through spirit artes. There's something called a "gate" that the Liese Maxians have in their brains which gives off mana, I don't think it's a physical thing lol. 

But Elenpios's people do not give off mana and therefore can't use spirit artes. So they created this device called "gin" to perform everyday society functions and allow anyone to use spirit artes ("gin" are used in weapons, but also in medical functions and other helpful ways). However, "gin" actually consume and kill spirits when used, which is why Elenpios was so barren and lifeless in ToX1. The creation of "gin" happened 2000 years ago when the world was still connected. This is what caused Maxwell to split the worlds apart 2000 years ago in the first place, he created the Shell to protect the spirits and the people with "gates". 

20 years before ToX1, the people of Elenpios sought out Liese Maxia (which by then had become legend only) looking for a new energy source, since Elenpios was running out of mana and spirits. This is how Ark Noah got to Liese Maxia in the first place. Destroying "gin" was one of Milla's primary motivations in the first game, since Ark Noah brought "gin" to Liese Maxia. At the same time, the people of Elenpios were also researching "origin". "Origin" are essentially artificial spirits created by infusing fossilized spirits with the help of a booster (another thing from ToX1, it enhances your mana output and your ability to use spirit artes basically. Tipo is a booster device, which is why Elise's magic is so powerful, despite being a kid). They are more powerful than "gin" and can act as a new energy source, the best part being that they don't kill spirits like "gin". However, they are hard to control and still in the research and development stage. Jude is currently researching them to try and rid the world of "gin", and thereby protect the spirits.
